Three kinds of wood from different pallet sources were used in constructing the table: pine, oak, and cedar. Overall dimensions are 30" x 30" x 15". The surface of the table top is sanded smooth, but left intentionally uneven, as the pallet planks used to construct the top varied in thickness. The shade has a slight discoloration due to fading in sunlight, but is consistent throughout and is not noticeable unless the shade is removed, revealing the non-faded area near the very bottom edge. It consists of a single layer of slats with gaps that make visible the antique-style Edison bulb inside. The redwood slats vary in thickness, and some retain the marks and imperfections of their past life. A very nice feature of these slats is that they all show the rough saw marks from when the wood was originally milled down, with all of the saw grooves running in the same direction and angle on each piece, all the way around the lamp. This adds great texture to the already beautiful pieces of worn wood. All new electrical hardware is used in this lamp, including special order cotton covered twisted wiring, antique style wall plug (optional), and nickel light socket - all replicas of vintage lamp hardware. The block has been sanded smooth, but retains some of the markings and imperfections from its past life. This particular piece has a strong grain pattern that is visible on both ends and inside all of the holes. There are a variety of hole sizes for organizing everything from pens to iphones to business cards. There are four 1.25" holes, three 2.25 x .75" slots, and twelve .5" holes. I can also make these blocks in various sizes with customized hole patterns based on your particular needs. Upon dismantling the futon frame, I milled down all the wood into smaller pieces which are needed for making the lamps, and sanded each piece to its natural finish.
